Behrendorff Wins Simon Katich Medal

Jason Behrendorff has capped a stellar BBL|04 campaign by winning the inaugural Simon Katich Medal for the Perth Scorchers Player of the Year as voted by his team-mates and coaches.

Behrendorff was presented with the award by Katich in person at Western Australian cricket’s annual night of nights, the Laurie Sawle Medal Night, at the Hyatt Regency Perth Grand Ballroom on Wednesday evening.

The left-arm quick was integral to the Scorchers’ back-to-back success, taking 15 wickets from 10 games with an exceptional economy rate of 6.28 for a power play bowler.

The medal is voted on by the 13-man playing squad and coaches Justin Langer and Adam Griffith after every match on a 3-2-1 basis.

Behrendorff won the medal with 132 votes, ahead of Andrew Tye (125) and Michael Carberry (113).

He becomes the first ever bowler to win the award, after batsmen Craig Simmons, Shaun Marsh and Herschelle Gibbs won the top gong in the previous three seasons.

The honour caps a stellar year for Behrendorff, who was voted by all BBL players as the Australian Cricketers’ Association Player of BBL|04.

Behrendorff, 24, also won the Domestic Player of the Year gong and was named in the ACA’s BBL|04 All*Stars.

The fast bowler was also voted by the #OrangeNation as the Perth Scorchers' fans' Player of the Season.
