Jason Behrendorff could be a selection bolter according to the Perth Scorchers coach Justin Langer ahead of Saturday’s BBL Final against the Sydney Sixers at #TheFurnace.
Behrendorff trained well at #TheFurnace on Thursday morning having sustained a fibula injury on the eve of BBL|06.
“Jason Behrendorff will be considered which is really exciting for us,” Langer said.
“He’s probably been one of the best T20 bowlers in Australia. He’s a consummate professional and has done everything.
“We’ll certainly consider him in the selection meeting as well.”
The left-armer hasn’t returned at Premier Cricket level with Subiaco Floreat and Langer conceded playing him would be a risk but it was something the selectors were considering.
“It’s a huge risk. No doubt. That said, he is the consummate professional,” Langer told reporters.
“If you saw him bowl in the nets, he looks really strong.
“In most circumstances you wouldn’t risk it but we’ve got to make sure Jhye Richardson, who is a lot younger, is fit and healthy.
“He’s been a bit stiff in the last game certainly. If Jhye is 100 per cent fit, I reckon he’ll play.
“If not, we’ll consider bringing in Jason Behrendorff who hasn’t played any cricket for a while but I’d back Jason Behrendorff every day of the week.”
Langer and the selectors have another selection headache, with Shaun Marsh unavailable for the BBL Final after being named in Australia’s ODI squad for the upcoming New Zealand series.
“We’ve got Cameron Bancroft and Hilton Cartwright who, one or maybe two of those guys, will come into the line-up,” Langer said.
