Mitch Marsh blasted 70 from 41 balls in Thursday’s clash with the Brisbane Heat but that paled in comparison to Chris Lynn’s 98 from 49 balls.
Lynn, alongside Brendon McCullum, guided the Heat to a stunning nine-wicket win, chasing down Perth’s 6-173 inside 15 overs at #TheFurnace.
McCullum hit an unbeaten 50 from 31 balls but Lynn crunched 11 sixes on his way to his unbeaten 98.
“To be brutally there’s not much you can do when Chris Lynn hits the ball like that,” Marsh said after the game.
“We’re not the first team he’s done that to. Your margin for error against a batsman like that is extremely small.
“Credit has to go to him. We probably didn’t execute as well as we would’ve liked but they chased down 170 in 14 overs, that’s pretty freakish batting.”
Lynn’s form in BBL|06 is stunning with Thursday’s knock taking him to 309 runs for the series with an average of 154.50 and a strike rate of 177.58.
“He’s just dangerous. If you miss your area, it’s literally going for six,” Marsh said.
“There’s not many batters in the world that can do that.
“He’s probably the new Chris Gayle now. He just seems to hit the ball for six at will.”
Marsh’s own innings was integral to Perth’s total which appeared slightly under par but well and truly defendable.
“After that I think 240 was par,” Marsh joked. “But the average winning score here is 170.
“In saying that, I still thought we were a couple short. There’s not much you can really say after an innings like that.”
Marsh’s score took him to second on the scorers’ charts for BBL|06 with 211 runs in his role at batting four.
“It’s been good,” Marsh said. “I’m enjoying the responsibility of batting at number four and trying to anchor the innings for us.
“Hopefully the runs keep coming.”
