Perth Scorchers all-rounder Ashton Agar says the side have depth to cover their injuries and the perfect mix to contend for the KFC Big Bash League title.
The Scorchers have been tested by the loss of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jason Behrendorff and Joel Paris to injuries but Agar was confident they had the players to cover.
Agar, along with the likes of Ashton Turner, Mitchell Marsh and potentially skipper Adam Voges, will need to bowl overs to make up for their loss, showing the side’s versatility.
“We’re very confident,” Agar said.
“We’ve got a pretty deep squad and there’s a lot of talent and guys who do multiple skills.
“I think we’ve covered all our bases really well as a squad going forward in the tournament.”
Depth is always a key in BBL, with players regularly going away on international duty.
The recruitment of Ian Bell to replace Michael Carberry as the club’s second import will help depth.
“It’s a pretty strong squad,” Agar said.
“We’ve got great internationals. Belly and David Willey are class acts.
“Good youth and great experience, I think it’s the perfect mix.”
Mitchell Johnson is the side’s other big addition and Agar was excited to see him in action after some promising warm-ups in the past week’s T20 practice matches.
“Everyone is excited,” Agar said. “He’s bowled some pretty quick balls out in the middle.
“He’s got the itch back to bowl again to be honest. He’s having fun, he’s enjoying his cricket.
“Whenever cricketers have fun, they’re usually pretty successful.”
