Scorchers Close To Finalising Squad

Perth Scorchers can today confirm it has signed all-rounder Hilton Cartwright and last season’s development rookie Jhye Richardson for KFC BBL|06.

The Scorchers can also confirm the re-signings of Australian international quartet Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh and Adam Voges and English recruit David Willey, who won the club’s Simon Katich Medal in BBL|05.

The signings takes the Scorchers squad to 17, leaving only one spot remaining, open to an international player, for BBL|06.

Scorchers coach Justin Langer said: “We’re delighted to have retained the majority of our squad, which helped us make the BBL semi-finals for the fifth consecutive year last season.

“It’s great to have four Australian international players re-commit to the Scorchers, along with David Willey who impressed everyone at the club and #TheFurnace last season with his performances and attitude.

“It’s particularly pleasing to have our players committed and secured at this point in time, allowing us excellent preparation for another tilt at the BBL.”

Cartwright, 24, has previously played five BBL games for the Scorchers and joins after a strong 2015-16 season where he scored 99 in the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup and his maiden Sheffield Shield century for the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors.

“Hilton had an outstanding 2015-16 season and is an exciting cricketer across all formats,” Langer said.

“He adds versatility to our squad with his all-round game and is a quality character around the group.”

Australia under-age international Richardson, 19, joins after debuting across all three formats for the Scorchers and Warriors last season, including taking two wickets from his first two overs in the Sheffield Shield.

Richardson played for the Scorchers in BBL|05 after being elevated as a Development Rookie.

“Jhye is a player with huge work ethic and skill and we’re excited to have him in our main squad for BBL|06,” Langer said.

“He bowls very quick, fields and bats really well and showed glimpses of his ability last season which suggests he’s a player on the rise.”

The Scorchers’ BBL|06 campaign begins on Friday 23 December at #TheFurnace against the Adelaide Strikers.

Scorchers BBL|05 Members have until Wednesday 31 August to renew in order to keep their seats for BBL|06. Renew here.
