'BBL Is Backdrop Of Australian Summer'

All-rounder Mitch Marsh says there’s nothing more fun than playing for the Perth Scorchers in the KFC Big Bash League.

The Scorchers big hitter has only played one game in the past two editions of the BBL due to internatonal commitments.

However, Marsh is likely to be available for the majority of this season’s edition after losing his spot in Australia’s Test team.

As a result, the popular all-rounder has linked up with his good mates within the Scorchers set-up.

“It’s so much fun to play in,” Marsh said.

“While the Big Bash has grown so much from the first year to now where it’s extremely competitive and you want to win every single game you play, it’s still a lot of fun.

“The crowds are amazing. Everywhere you go, people are talking about the Big Bash.

“It’s become the backdrop of the Australian summer.

“It’s on every night throughout December and January. For us as players it’s awesome fun.

“I’ve said a few times the last few years I’ve had some of the best fun on the cricket field playing for this side so it’s a very exciting time.”

The 25-year-old said the distraction of trying to reclaim his Test spot wouldn’t take any of his focus during BBL|06.

“That’s not my focus. I think if I went in with that focus I wouldn’t enjoy my cricket as much,” he said.

“I just want to enjoy playing my cricket for the Scorchers. Play my role for the team and do as best I can.”

The Scorchers begin their BBL|06 campaign at home to the Adelaide Strikers on Friday 23 December from 6.15pm WST.
