Top 5 BBL|05 Scorchers Moments

Winning is always awesome, that’s goes without saying. But those little moments in games, when someone does something special, make the KFC Big Bash League what it is.

Here’s our top five Scorchers moments from BBL|05. Tell us yours.

5. Marsh monsters maximum

It was the Scorchers first game of BBL|05, with the hosts going just over a run-a-ball at #TheFurnace when Shaun Marsh decided enough was enough against the Adelaide Strikers. He advanced and crunched Jon Holland’s delivery flat and hard towards the Members in the second tier of the Lillee Marsh Stand, for what was one of the biggest sixes of the season.

4. Dorff’s grab against the Gades

The Melbourne Renegades were flying at 0-98 after 11.1 overs before Jason Behrendorff’s intervention, firstly dismissing the free-wheeling Chris Gayle. But it was the next ball which was freakish, with Cameron White driving forward and Behrendorff flailing his right hand, not his preferred left, up to pull off a stunning one-handed reflex catch which turned the game on its head.

3. Maxy & Sos’ BBL record

Michael Klinger and Shaun Marsh’s unbelievable match-winning partnership against the Melbourne Renegades wasn’t really a one-off moment, but rather the conclusion when it hit home that they had made history. The pair shared a BBL record 171-run stand which completed the first-ever 10-wicket win in competition history. Those stats suggest a performance like that is a very rare feat.

2. AJ Tye’s tense final over

The Scorchers match away to the Hobart Hurricanes came down to the wire. Hobart needed 16 off the final over, with Darren Sammy and Jono Wells at the crease and Tye with the ball. A dropped catch allowed two runs, before another two and an applauded dot. Then Sammy hit a six, before a dot, left Hobart needing six off the last ball to win. Sammy could only manage a four, while the rest of us could breathe again.

1. Ashton Agar’s screamer

The all-rounder is a bit of a freak in the field and always saves the Scorchers supporters at least one screamer per season. He may have been 12th man in the opening game against the Adelaide Strikers at #TheFurnace but that didn’t stop Agar grabbing the headlines. Brad Hodge hit Joel Paris high towards deep mid-on, but running back with the flight, Agar threw his body backwards in the air to pull off an unbelievable catch, before a memorable celebration on his knees.
