Squad confirmed for Hurricanes, Heat Contests

Perth Scorchers have travelled with a 13-player squad for season-opening Weber Women’s Big Bash League games against Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat.

The Scorchers will be led throughout WBBL|09 by title-winning captain and New Zealand superstar Sophie Devine, who returns for her fourth season in orange after being retained with the Club’s Platinum selection in the inaugural WBBL Draft.

News of a deal for Lauren Winfield-Hill will also boost the squad, with the dashing English opener secured as an International Replacement Player for the first six games of the tournament.

Perth Scorchers Memberships, and tickets for every Perth Scorchers Weber WBBL|09 and KFC BBL|13 match are now available. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the Orange Army this season.

Winfield-Hill adds to a talented batting group, which also features Devine, star opener Beth Mooney, English international Amy Jones, experienced middle-order batter Lisa Griffith and rising star Maddy Darke.

The Scorchers could unveil as many as five Club debutants on Friday, with Winfield-Hill, Darke, towering fast bowler Stella Campbell and young WA pair Zoe Britcliffe and Chloe Ainsworth in the mix for selection.

Twenty-two-year-old Britcliffe joins the Scorchers as an Injury Replacement Player, after allrounder Charis Bekker was ruled out of WBBL|09 due to a longstanding knee injury.

Britcliffe was rewarded for strong form representing WA in the Women’s National Cricket League, impressing with her craft and versatility.

She played a crucial role in consecutive opening round victories against Victoria, taking five wickets including the scalp of brilliant batter Meg Lanning in both matches.

The Scorchers’ WBBL games record holder Chloe Piparo is unavailable for selection after injuring her right quad at training this week, with a timeframe for her return still to be determined.

Experienced pace bowler Taneale Peschel (appendicitis) is also unavailable.

The Scorchers, who arrive in Launceston this evening, will begin their campaign against Hobart Hurricanes at University of Tasmania Stadium on Friday, before taking on Brisbane Heat at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
