Hinkley back in Orange

Perth Scorchers have bolstered their batting stocks ahead of Weber WBBL|10, signing dynamic middle-order batter Mikayla Hinkley for the next two seasons.

This will be Hinkley’s second stint in orange, following her five appearances for the Club in WBBL|03.

The 25-year-old is a known commodity in the WBBL, having played 64 matches during stints with the Scorchers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder since her debut as a 16-year-old in WBBL|01.

A powerful right-hander, Hinkley has been a reliable run-scorer during her time in the competition, compiling 348 runs in 37 innings.

Known for her versatility, Hinkley can occupy multiple positions in the batting order, with her powerful batting style and composure at the crease set to play an important role in the Scorchers line-up in WBBL|10.

Hinkley has made the permanent move to Perth during the off-season, after joining Western Australia from Queensland ahead of the 2024-25 domestic season.

While playing for the Fire, Hinkley tallied 1065 runs at 35.46 including six half-centuries and a match-winning hundred (121 from 141 deliveries) against WA in March 2022.

Reflecting on signing for the Scorchers, Hinkley said:

“I am really excited to be returning to the Scorchers. The Club is brilliantly run, has a wonderful team culture and I’m looking forward to being part of it.

“Perth has plenty of talent on their list, who I am excited to learn from, and I know that being in this environment will give me a great opportunity to take my game to the next level.

“I have a lot of confidence that this group can have sustained success, and I think my versatile skillset will allow me to have an immediate impact in helping drive this team towards winning another WBBL title.

“The WACA Ground is such an iconic venue and one I have always enjoyed playing at, so I cannot wait to play in front of all the Scorchers Members and fans.

Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach, Becky Grundy, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Mikayla to the Scorchers for the next two seasons.

“She is a highly talented player who has a skillset well suited to the needs of our squad, so when the opportunity to sign her became available, we jumped at the chance.

“We believe her versatility, experience and leadership will be really valuable to our squad, and we can’t wait to get her around the group.”
