Prime-Time Scorchers set for Opening Day in WBBL|10

Perth Scorchers have plenty to be excited about ahead of the Weber Women’s Big Bash League season, with prime-time home fixtures and marquee matches at big stadiums among the highlights of today’s fixture announcement.

The WBBL|10 fixture, released by Cricket Australia, also reveals a favourable travel schedule for the Scorchers, who will feature regularly on free-to-air television and in marquee timeslots.

Perth begins their campaign with a prime-time home fixture against Melbourne Stars on Sunday 27 October, with the clash forming the last leg of a bumper triple-header to open the WBBL season.

Another primetime blockbuster against Hobart Hurricanes (Saturday 23 November) has also been locked into the calendar, with the fixture to attract fans to the WACA Ground following Day Two of the NRMA Insurance Men’s Test match between Australia and India.

Back-to-back home matches against Brisbane Heat (Tuesday 5 November) and Melbourne Renegades (Thursday 7 November) follow a clash with Melbourne Renegades (Saturday November 2, Junction Oval), the first of two stints in the Eastern States.

Perth will then hit the road for an extended stint, with contests against the Hurricanes (10 November, Sydney Cricket Ground), Thunder (12 November, Drummoyne Oval), Sixers (15 November, Melbourne Cricket Ground), Strikers (19 November, Karen Rolton Oval) and Sixers (November 21, Blundstone Arena) to come within a condensed 11-day period.

The Scorchers are also poised to play at two of the nation’s most celebrated stadiums, taking on Hobart Hurricanes at the SCG (Sunday 10 November) before meeting the Sixers at the MCG (Friday 15 November).

Those who progress to the Final will fight to become WBBL|10 Champions on Sunday 1 December.

Reflecting on the fixture, Perth Scorchers General Manager Jess Keily said:

“Playing all four home matches at the WACA Ground is a wonderful opportunity for the players and our fans, and we are looking forward to giving them the best match-day experience at our iconic venue.

“We are also thrilled to have the opportunity to play at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Melbourne Cricket Ground as part of the WBBL Stadium Series. It will be an incredible experience for the girls to play at those venues, many for the first time in their careers.

“In addition, the Scorchers’ TV footprint has been created with our fans in mind, with strong representation across free-to-air and WA-friendly timeslots to ensure everyone can enjoy WBBL|10.”

Perth Scorchers Head Coach Becky Grundy said:

“The WBBL is an exciting competition which the players love to be a part of and we are pumped to get our season started at home on 27 October against Melbourne Stars.

“The strong block of games at the WACA Ground to begin the campaign gives us a great opportunity to get our season off to a positive start.

“A five-match road trip in the back half of the tournament provides our squad the chance to connect as a unit. We were able to produce our best cricket on the road last year and I’m confident we can recreate it this summer.

“We love playing in front of Scorchers Members and fans and making them proud. We can’t wait to see them out in force again this season.”
