Young Talent set for T20 Spring Challenge

Perth Scorchers have finalised their 14-player squad for the inaugural T20 Spring Challenge Series in Adelaide and Sydney, with some of the state’s brightest young talents getting the chance to impress against quality WBBL opponents

Perth is poised to field a team comprising five contracted players from the Scorchers’ Weber WBBL side, while the remaining squad members have spent time with the WA state squad this season.

WA Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) skipper Chloe Piparo will captain a team featuring fellow WBBL-contracted players Maddy Darke, Mikayla Hinkley, Lilly Mills and Stella Campbell.

Tied to NSW in the WNCL, Campbell will represent the Scorchers under tournament rules allowing those who hold both state and WBBL contracts to prioritise their franchises.

State players Charis Bekker, Zoe Britcliffe, Bhavisha Devchand and Shay Manolini have all been included in the squad, while Chloe Bartholomew, Rebecca McGrath, Ines McKeon, and Morgan Pires earned selection following impressive starts to the summer in WA Premier Cricket, WNCL and U19s internationals, respectively.

The Scorchers launch their campaign against two-time WBBL champions Adelaide Strikers on Friday 11 October at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide, before taking on Melbourne Renegades (Saturday 12 October) and Hobart Hurricanes (Monday 14 October) at the same venue.

They will then round out the ‘regular season’ against Sydney Thunder (Wednesday 16 October) at North Sydney Oval, leading into the semifinals (Saturday 19 October) and final (Sunday 20 October) at Cricket Central in Sydney.
