No Joshing around: Inglis pens new deal

Perth Scorchers star Josh Inglis has signed a one-year contract extension, tying him to the Club until at least the end of the KFC BBL|15 season.

Australia’s incumbent limited overs gloveman with 49 international appearances to his name (26 T20Is and 23 ODIs), Inglis was already contracted for BBL|14.

The dynamic right-hander is among the most destructive wicketkeeper-batters in global cricket, boasting the third-highest T20I strike rate (160.14) of any Australian.

Inglis holds Australia’s fastest T20I century, reaching triple figures in 43 deliveries against Scotland last month. That knock followed his 47-ball hundred versus India in November 2023, which ranks equal-second on the same list alongside superstars Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch, who are the only other Australians to have tallied multiple T20I centuries.

His record for the Scorchers is also exceptional, sitting fifth on Perth’s all-time list for BBL games played (76) while ranking third for runs scored (1,747) behind Club greats Ashton Turner (2,037) and Mitch Marsh (1,904).

With the gloves, Inglis has played a hand in more wickets per BBL innings than any wicketkeeper (minimum 15 dismissals).

The 29-year-old reads the game well, is regarded highly for his leadership qualities, and has thrived with the added responsibility of vice-captaincy.

Reflecting on his contract extension, Inglis said:

"I love being part of this Scorchers team so extending my contract was an easy decision.

"We're a very tight unit and we've play a lot of cricket together. Sharing those title-winning moments as a group is why you play the game, so hopefully there is more of that this coming season.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing Finn Allen in action at The Furnace this year. I spent a month with him in the MLC (Major League Cricket) and saw firsthand how destructive he can be at the top of the order. More importantly, he's a great bloke that will fit into this team seamlessly and hopefully have a really positive impact for us.

"Playing BBL cricket at Optus over the holiday period is always such an exciting time in the calendar and one I look forward to every year. I'm really excited about what's ahead and hopefully there's more silverware on the horizon."
