Hoskin, Leeson complete Scorchers squad for WBBL|10

Perth Scorchers have finalised their squad for Weber WBBL|10, securing ACT allrounder Carly Leeson and exciting NSW quick Ebony Hoskin with their two remaining local list spots.

Leeson, 25, joins the Scorchers on a one-year deal, having previously played 52 WBBL games for Melbourne Renegades (49) and Sydney Sixers (three).

The allrounder performed well for ACT Meteors during the recent T20 Spring Challenge, scoring 148 runs from four innings (128.69 strike rate) including an unbeaten 68 to earn Player of the Match honours against Melbourne Stars.

Leeson has also been a strong contributor for the ACT in the Women’s National Cricket League, tallying 908 runs and 43 wickets in her 49 matches.

Hoskin, meanwhile, has signed for WBBL|10 following her maiden Big Bash campaign with Sydney Thunder last summer.

The tall right-arm quick made an impressive WBBL debut against Melbourne Renegades, taking the key wicket of Josie Dooley in her first over.

Known for generating pace and steepling bounce, Hoskin is now a regular of New South Wales’ strong WNCL team.

Reflecting on signing with the Scorchers, Leeson said:

“I am really delighted to be joining the Scorchers. The Club is brilliantly run and has a wonderful team culture that I have admired from afar, and I’m looking forward to being part of it.

“I have heard nothing but amazing things about the playing group and the coaching staff, and I am excited to see what we can achieve as a team in WBBL|10.

“The WACA Ground is such an iconic venue and one I have always enjoyed playing at, so I cannot wait to play in front of all the Scorchers Members and fans.”

After signing with her new club, Hoskin said:

“I am really excited to be joining the Scorchers. It’s a new opportunity for me and pushes me out of my comfort zone, but something I’m really looking forward to.

“Perth has plenty of international talent on their list, who I am excited to learn from, and I know that being around them will benefit my game massively.”

Perth Scorchers General Manager – High Performance Cricket & Elite Teams Kade Harvey said:

“We are very happy to secure the talents of both Carly and Ebony to fill our final domestic list spots for WBBL|10.

“Carly is an attacking middle-order player who is coming off strong form for ACT in the T20 Spring Challenge. She is a proven performer at WBBL level, and we like the versatility that she will add to our batting group.

“Ebony is a highly talented quick bowler who offers good pace and bounce. She adds great depth to our fast-bowling stocks, and we think the WACA Ground will really suit her skillset.”

Perth begin their campaign with a prime-time showdown at home against Melbourne Stars on Sunday 27 October.

Sunday’s contest is also the Scorchers’ annual Aboriginal match, which will see more than 160 kids from around the state gather in Perth for the Kambarang Cricket Carnival – a series of mini curtain-raisers on the WACA Ground.

Carnival participants will later join their Scorchers and Stars heroes in Australian Cricket’s largest Barefoot Circle before the WBBL blockbuster begins.

Perth will proudly wear their Aboriginal Playing Shirt designed by Linda Loo, an artist born in Corrigin and connected to the Ballardong and Whadjuk clans of the Nyoongar nation.
