Scorchers squad confirmed for WBBL season opener

Perth Scorchers have named a 13-player squad for their season-opening Weber WBBL|10 clash with Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground tomorrow night

The Scorchers could unveil as many as three Club debutants on Sunday, with new recruits Carly Leeson, Ebony Hoskin and Ni Made Putri Suwandewi all in the mix for selection, while returning Scorcher Mikayla Hinkley could make her first appearance in orange since WBBL|03.

Skipper Sophie Devine and Indian international Hemalatha Dayalan will both miss the season-opener, with the pair currently in India competing against each other in a three-match 50-over series.

Both are expected to be available for the Scorchers next match against Melbourne Renegades at CitiPower Centre on 2 November.

Star wicketkeeper batter Beth Mooney will captain the side, with the 30-year to take on leadership duties in the absence of Devine.

Amy Edgar and Chloe Ainsworth have both been named after being passed fit, after both missed the T20 Spring Challenge earlier this month due to minor injuries.

The best way to catch WBBL|10 and BBL|14 action is with a Membership. Packages start from $16 and can be secured via wacricketmembership.com.au.

Sunday’s contest is also the Scorchers’ annual Aboriginal match, which will see more than 160 kids from around the state gather in Perth for the Kambarang Cricket Carnival – a series of mini curtain-raisers on the WACA Ground.

Carnival participants will later join their Scorchers and Stars heroes in Australian Cricket’s largest Barefoot Circle before the WBBL blockbuster begins.

Perth will proudly wear their Aboriginal Playing Shirt designed by Linda Loo, an artist born in Corrigin and connected to the Ballardong and Whadjuk clans of the Nyoongar nation.

More information about the Scorchers’ Aboriginal Playing Shirt, as well as WA Cricket’s Reconciliation Action Plan, can be found here.

The WACA Ground will also play host to the Scorchers Fan Day before the match, with fans getting the opportunity to meet their favourite BBL players in the Player Signings tent, while there will be plenty of family fun activities to enjoy in the Fan Zone.
