Sizzling Scorchers strike down Thunder

A blistering knock from skipper Sophie Devine and a Player of the Match performance from Chloe Ainsworth has delivered Perth Scorchers a dominant 74-run victory over Sydney Thunder at Drummoyne Oval tonight.

Ainsworth (2-15 off four) produced another scintillating display with the new ball, dismissing key Thunder batters Georgia Voll and Chamari Athapaththu in the Powerplay to set her team on their way in the field, after the Scorchers posted 7-171 off their 20 overs.

Skipper Sophie Devine (48 off 34 balls) top-scored for the away side after playing a slightly different role in the middle order, producing her best innings of the competition to date in a knock that included six fours and a six over mid-wicket.

Indian international Hemalatha Dayalan also produced her highest score of the season, showing her full array of shots to finish with 41 off just 26 balls.

It was an even contribution with the ball and in the field for the Scorchers, with each bowler taking a wicket in the runaway victory. Amy Edgar (3-19 off 3.3), Ebony Hoskin (2-10 off three) and Ainsworth all finished with multiple wickets.

The Scorchers fielding was also a feature, with Mikayla Hinkley taking a career-high three catches, while acrobatic efforts from Alana King and Devine put a rubber stamp on the Scorchers best performance of the season.

Here are the key takeaways from tonight's match:

Devine back to her devastating best

Devine was back to her match-winning best with the bat, blasting six fours and a six in her innings of 48. Coming in at number four, the 35-year-old showed her brutal power through the middle overs to power the Scorchers to 7-171 off 20 overs.

Hemalatha shows her class
At her absolute best, Dayalan Hemalatha is one of the classiest ball strikers in women’s cricket, and that’s exactly what she produced tonight. She struck the ball with power and confidence throughout her 26-ball 41, with her ability to find the boundary helping the Scorchers gain momentum throughout the innings.

Ainsworth unplayable with the new ball
Chloe Ainsworth is making a habit of taking key wickets with the new ball. The 19-year-old was at it again in the PowerPlay tonight to get her team rolling, dismissing Thunder stars Chamari Athapaththu and Georgia Voll in a blistering new-ball blitz.

Hoskin produces career-best against former side
It was another impressive showing from Ebony Hoskin, producing career-best figures of 2-10 off three overs against her former side. Bowling with good pace and swing, WBBL|10 has been a breakout tournament for the 21-year-old, who has featured in each of the Scorchers six matches.

Every game matters
WBBL|10 is proving to be unpredictable, with each team capable of beating the other on any given day. Following tonight’s dominant victory, the Scorchers climb from sixth to second on the ladder with four wins from six matches.

The Scorchers head to Melbourne tomorrow ahead of a return clash with the Thunder at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday afternoon.
