Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers have played out an incredible game of WBBL cricket this afternoon, with the match ending in a tie after a dramatic super-over at Ninja Stadium in Hobart.
Scorchers, Sixers split points in super-over thriller
Here are the key takeaways from today's match.
Must win contest against the Hurricanes
Perth Scorchers have kept their season alive following today’s tie with the Sixers, with Saturday’s clash against Hobart Hurricanes at the WACA Ground now becoming a must-win contest if they are to feature in the WBBL Finals for a second consecutive season.
Mooney reaches incredible individual milestone
Beth Mooney continues to take her game to new heights in the WBBL, this time becoming the first ever player to reach 5000 runs in tournament history. The ever reliable opener brought up the milestone by striking 44 off 37 balls, including four boundaries. She temporarily took the lead in the BKT Golden Bat Award, before being passed by Sixer Ellyse Perry.
Halliday and Mooney pace Scorchers innings
Promoted to number three, New Zealander Brooke Halliday (41 off 32 balls) continued her great start to life in orange, combining with Mooney for an 85-run second-wicket partnership to provide the backbone of the Scorchers 126-run total.
King continues to deliver
Alana King is going from strength to strength during WBBL|10. The star legspinner now leads the BKT Golden Arm award with 20 wickets from nine matches after snaring 3-21 off her four overs this afternoon. Her brilliant effort with the ball kept the Scorchers in the contest, including the big wicket of Perry with the game on the line.
Super Over Thriller
In one of the most remarkable games ever seen in the WBBL, the teams couldn’t be split after the super over. Needing 12 runs from the last three deliveries, batter Mikayla Hinkley struck a hat-trick of boundaries of Sixers spinner Ash Gardner to rescue a point for her side.
