Hurricanes ends Scorchers Season

Perth Scorchers Weber WBBL|10 campaign has come to end, after being defeated by Hobart Hurricanes by three wickets at the WACA Ground tonight.

Here are the key takeaways from tonight’s match.

Record WBBL crowd attendance at WACA Ground
Scorchers loyal members and fans turned up to the WACA Ground in their droves with their team’s season on the line, with 3,701 fans rolling into the Furnace to watch their team in action. The attendance was a record for a WBBL match at the famous venue.

Mooney consistent as ever
She’s the competition’s all-time leading run-scorer for a reason, there is nobody as consistent in the WBBL than Beth Mooney. The classy left-hander posted her 44th half-century in the competition (50 off 40 balls) to finish as her side’s top scorer once again. WBBL|10 was another solid campaign for the 30-year-old, finishing with 386 runs at 38.60 in ten innings.

Devine almost drags her side over the line
Skipper Sophie Devine once again did everything in her power to get her side over the line tonight. Whether it was her dynamic middle-order cameo (28 off 22) or her match-turning spell with the ball (4-26 off four), the New Zealand superstar produced an individual effort worth the price of admission.

Scorchers season ends
In a winner-takes-all contest, the Scorchers season unfortunately ends following tonight’s defeat. Through ten matches, the Scorchers finish with four wins, a draw and five defeats, placing them out of the top four spots.

While the Scorchers season ends early, there have been plenty of individual performances of note. While Mooney features among the top run-scorers yet again, Alana King also leads the BKT Golden Arm award heading into the final day of matches.
