Star Allrounder Joins Squad For Boxing Day Bash

Perth Scorchers allrounder Aaron Hardie could play his first match of the KFC BBL|14 season after being selected in the 14-player squad to face Brisbane Heat on Boxing Day.

The reigning Simon Katich medallist, who has been rehabilitating a quad injury, adds power and class to the top-order.

Hardie won the BKT Golden Cap in Perth’s title-winning BBL|12 campaign, scoring 460 runs at 41.81 after replacing the injured Mitch Marsh at number three.

He backed up his breakout season by finishing third on the BBL|13 run-scoring table (334 runs at 37.11), juggling batting and bowling responsibilities with the interim captaincy.

Making way for Hardie is wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis, who linked up with Australia’s Test squad in Melbourne this week alongside Scorchers pace ace Jhye Richardson.

The Club has its sights on a bumper crowd for the hotly anticipated Boxing Day Bash, which has become one of the marquee slots on WA’s cricketing calendar.

Caleb Harper, the lead singer of prominent Fremantle band Spacey Jane and a self-confessed cricket tragic, will launch proceedings by sending down the ceremonial first ball as sunlight turns to dusk.

Fans are also encouraged to warm up their vocal cords for an innings break karaoke show, while a DJ wil be on deck to spin the classics.

Play begins tomorrow at 6:15PM, WA time, with the match broadcast live on Seven, 7Plus, Foxtel, Kayo Sports, SEN and ABC Sport.
