Perth Scorchers stars Cooper Connolly and Jason Behrendorff have been rewarded for their brilliant form during KFC BBL|14, by earning selection in the 12-player Team of the Tournament.
Connolly, Behrendorff selected in Team of the Tournament
Connolly was included in the Team of the Tournament for the first time, with the 21-year-old finishing as the BKT Golden Bat Award winner with 351 runs at 50.14 at an impressive strike rate of 131.46 in a breakout campaign.
His consistency across the season was a real feature, striking two half-centuries and passing 30 on seven occasions in ten innings.
The stylish left-hander was afforded increased responsibility in the Scorchers batting order this season following the unavailability of regulars Josh Inglis (Test Squad) and Aaron Hardie (Injury), moving up to the crucial position of number three after spending the early part of his career in a late order ‘finisher’ role.
His ability to contribute across all three facets of the game also reached new heights, with his left-arm spin contributing six wickets at 29.16 across ten matches while regularly being one of the Scorchers best outfielders.
Connolly’s form in BBL|14 saw him rewarded with selection in the Australian Test squad on their tour to Sri Lanka, where he is a chance to make his debut in the two-test series.
Behrendorff also makes his maiden appearance in the Team of the Tournament after putting together another productive campaign with the ball for the Scorchers.
His 17 wickets at 17.41 with an economy of 7.55 runs per over earned him the BKT Golden Arm Award, finishing as the competition’s highest wicket-taker.
The 34-year-old pocketed the award after a Player of the Match performance in the Scorchers final match of the season against Adelaide Strikers at Optus Stadium, where he claimed a season best 3-21 off four overs.
Behrendorff’s ability to strike in the Powerplay often put the Scorchers on the front foot, with his seven wickets during the initial four-over fielding restrictions the most of any bowler during BBL|14.
A reliable performer across his BBL career, Behrendorff currently sits fifth on the competition’s all-time wicket-takers list with 140 from 106 appearances.
