The KFC T20 Big Bash League’s trade period gets underway tomorrow and will run until 6 February.
Everything you need to know about the BBL Player Movement Window
The Trade Period allows clubs to trade/transfer contracted players to another club at any stage of their contract (with the approval of all three parties). The clubs involved in a trade can negotiate a part or full payment of the traded player’s retainer amount.
A club may transfer a player to another club without receiving a player in return in order to receive salary cap relief by letting the player move to another club. Multi-club trades are also permissible.
Teams can also sign players from other clubs who are not contracted beyond WBBL|10 or BBL|14, and can trade overseas player draft positions, either alongside player trades, or on their own.
While the draft order itself will not be known until the lottery takes place, usually around the middle of the year, teams will know who finished in the bottom four (picks 1-4) and top four (picks 5-8) in WBBL|10 and BBL|14 and can trade based on that.
Clubs will not be able to re-sign or extend contracts of their own players during that period.
Teams will also be bound by maximum list sizes. For the BBL, a club may have up to 10 players on their BBL list prior to the Player Movement Window, and 12 at its completion.
The Scorchers narrowly missed the BBL|14 Finals, finishing the regular season in fifth season with four wins from ten matches.
