Mooney is the most prolific batter the WBBL has seen, having tallied 4,108 runs (two centuries, 36 half-centuries) for Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat prior to the 2023-24 Weber Women's Big Bash League season. She currently sits atop the all-time leading run scorers in the competitions history, after becoming the first player to pass the 4000 run milestone.
She will start WBBL|08 ranked second on Perth's all-time run-scoring chart, despite playing just 42 games in orange. She requires 175 runs to overtake former opener Ellyse Villani (1704 runs).
No fewer than 537 of Mooney's runs (one century, four half-centuries) came during the Scorchers' title-winning WBBL|07 campaign, when the graceful left-hander and New Zealand superstar Sophie Devine dominated opponents atop the order.
Mooney signed a two-year contract extension with Perth towards the back end of WBBL|07, which will tie her to the Club until at least the end of WBBL|09.
The 29-year-old will be a key pillar for the Scorchers in WBBL |09, with her consistency and composure at the crease set to be the key to Perth’s success.
