Scorchers named Team of the Decade

Perth Scorchers have celebrated their rich ten season history in the Weber Women’s Big Bash League, by naming their Team of the Decade during a special pre-match presentation before the clash against Hobart Hurricanes at the WACA Ground tonight.

Scorchers Team of the Decade:
Beth Mooney
Ellyse Villani
Meg Lanning
Sophie Devine (Captain)
Marizanne Kapp
Nicole Bolton
Heather Graham
Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Alana King
Emma King
Piepa Cleary
Taneale Peschel

The final team, chosen by WA Cricket General Manager High Performance & Elite Teams Kade Harvey and Christina Matthews AM, Australia’s most-capped female Test player and former WA Cricket Chief Executive Officer, was put together based on a real WBBL match, meaning only three international players could be selected.

New Zealand superstar Sophie Devine was named captain of the highly-talented team, made up of the Scorchers most successful and decorated players.

Devine has been a revelation since joining the Scorchers after crossing from Adelaide Strikers at the start of WBBL|06, captaining the Club on each of her 63 appearances in orange.

Prolific run-scorers Beth Mooney, Ellyse Villani and Meg Lanning all feature in a strong top order, while Heather Graham and Nicole Bolton were recognised for their strong impact on the Club in the early days of the competition.

Star allrounders Marizanne Kapp and Katherine Sciver-Brunt join Devine to make up the international player contingent, while Alana King, Emma King, Piepa Cleary and Taneale Peschel form an experienced local bowling attack.

The pre-match presentation included kids from the White Knights Baldivis Cricket Club as well as representatives from Country Cricket clubs walking out onto the field of play to receive a playing cap and frame on behalf of the selected players.

The Club’s passionate Members and fans also had the opportunity to choose their favourite players (including their choice of captain) from a list of nominees.
