Perth Scorchers have added to their exciting list of wicket-taking quicks, securing talented right-armer Bryce Jackson as a Local Replacement Player.
Bryce, Bryce, Baby! Promising Quick Joins Perth
Embarking on his first KFC BBL campaign, the Albany product will be available for selection while star allrounder Mitch Marsh is with Australia’s Test squad.
Jackson has impressed for WA and Melville since overcoming the long string of injury setbacks that stalled the formative stages of his career, taking 10 wickets at 16.6 in three One-Day Cup (ODC) games.
He returned the best-ever ODC figures by a WA bowler in just his second List A match, ripping through South Australia with 6-31 at Cricket Central in September. Among Jackson’s victims were five of the Redbacks’ top six batters.
The 25-year-old was also important on ODC debut with three wickets against Tasmania in Hobart last season, playing his part in a victory that paved WA’s path to the 2023-24 Marsh Cup Final.
Jackson bowls with good speed, swings the new ball, and has the height to generate awkward bounce on a variety of surfaces.
He joins an imposing pace brigade featuring Jhye Richardson, Lance Morris, Jason Behrendorff, AJ Tye, Matt Kelly, Mahli Beardman and allrounder Aaron Hardie.
Perth Scorchers will launch the KFC BBL|14 season against Melbourne Stars at Optus Stadium on Sunday in a Wild West-themed extravaganza.
The blockbuster begins at 4:15pm and will be broadcast live on The Seven Network, 7Plus, FOX SPORTS, SEN and ABC Sport.
Reflecting on joining Perth Scorchers, Jackson said:
“It feels amazing to be able to chuck on the orange and black with the history this Club has in the competition. I feel very privileged to be a Scorcher.
“The past three months for me have been unreal, going from spending three or four days a week in the gym doing rehab to taking six wickets against South Australia. If you asked me two years ago whether any of this would happen in the near future, I would’ve said the odds were looking pretty slim, but some luck’s gone my way and I'm riding the wave.
“My goal is to learn as much as I can from all our players – not only our bowlers but learning more about thinking like a batter and how they manipulate fields. If I get the chance to run out on to the field at The Furnace, that’d be huge for me given where I’ve come from.
"I’m just excited about what the season could hold, not only from the team’s perspective but from a personal point of view as well.”
